Custom Homes & Renovations in Southport, NC
This is home. Chase lives and works in Southport, and that's not a tagline — it's a hometown builder who knows the historic streets, the river, and the people at the permit counter by name.
Our hometown
We don't drive in to build here. We live here.
Southport is Northstar's home base, and it shows up in the work. When the builder lives down the road, you get someone who's on the job, knows the local trades and suppliers by name, and has a reputation in town to protect. That's worth more here than any sales pitch.
Sitting where the Cape Fear River meets the ocean, with the Bald Head Island ferry running off the waterfront, Southport is equal parts historic small town and high-demand coastal market. We build across all of it — old-town renovations, new river and waterfront homes, and customs out in St James Plantation.

We know every street in this town
Southport's waterfront and Riverwalk, the Old Yacht Basin, Franklin Square Park, Fort Johnston, the canopy of live oaks over the old district — these aren't postcard names to us, they're the neighborhood. We know which lots flood, which streets have the old septic and water lines, and how the town handles work in the historic core.
Just outside the old town, St James Plantation and Indigo Plantation drive a lot of the custom demand here, and the beaches of Oak Island are a few minutes over the bridge. We build across all of it, with the same cost-plus honesty every time.
Southport FAQs
Do you do renovations in the old Southport historic district?
We do, and we live a few minutes from it. The historic district has its own character — the live-oak streets, the old cottages, Fort Johnston nearby. Renovating here means respecting that. We match the look, work within the rules on what you can change outside, and modernize the inside without making the house feel new in a bad way.
Can you build a custom home in St James Plantation?
Yes. St James is one of the biggest custom-home markets on this coast, and we know how to build inside a large gated golf community — the architectural guidelines, the construction rules, the inspections. We've worked these communities and we keep your project moving through the approvals instead of stalling on them.
What about a waterfront or river lot in Southport?
Waterfront here means the Cape Fear River, the Intracoastal, and the marsh, and each one comes with its own rules — setbacks, CAMA considerations, and how high and how far back you can build. We sort that out early so the home you design is the home you can actually permit and build on that lot.
